Garbage In, Garbage Out: TV, Movies, And Music

Does God want me to watch television? As a Christian, should I only listen to music artists / bands who are on Christian music labels? Does God want me to throw away all of my secular music / movies / media? How can I answer God’s call to be holy as He is holy, while living in this corrupt generation?

Thanks, Sister, for a balanced look at how we should live. I appreciate the balance between worldliness and legalism.

I will admit — we do have a television, but what do we use it for? Local news and preaching programs, esp. Charles Stanley and a dynamite local church here in Indianapolis, Berean Bible Church.

You are right on the money as far as holiness, especially since it’s inside.

One thing that gets my flesh boiling are those who equate holiness with a musical style, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you know what I’m talking about. I got saved at a 2nd Chapter of Acts concert. But I heard one woman tell me (not knowing where I got saved) that she felt “holy music” (i.e. traditional) was more important than the souls getting saved by contemporary Christian music.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you.
